Energy While Drifting
The time was 11:49am when I decided to take a walk to a place that was nearby my apartment, but somewhere I never really paid attention to. I usually walk around the right side of this one particular Rutgers building; The Ruth Adams Building on Douglass Campus, daily. However, this day I decided to walk around the left side of the building and realized I was travelling towards an open field. I really didn't know that geography could be altered so greatly just by going in another direction. I didn't avoid walking in the place on purpose, I just never knew that it existed until I saw others walking that way. I also wasn't drifting alone of course, I had my roommate walking next to me and I had a Coors Light Cooler full of non-alcoholic drinks. In fact, the irony is that I had a bunch of Gatorade, Snapple and Poland Spring Water Bottles. After walking into this long open field it occured to me that this was the perfect place to create a path that represented a pattern consistent with my vibrant personality. The drinks in the bag are representational of energy, life, and rejuvination. I documented a few videos of the path that I created which appears to be linear but really isn't. I didn't really take many pictures of this path because I wanted to show my path through movement instead of creating an image of still life. Inspirations thanks to the exhibitions of Richard Long, which are fasinating in that he chose to display some of the most interesting circular paths created. His mode of complexity lies within a subtle image of simplicity. Also, drifiting alone is interesting, but others can easily drag along beside you and they too influence your direction, your meaning and your path.
